Mapping/GIS Production Manager (Charts)

Imray is the leading publisher of nautical information for leisure sailors. The company is at a time of exciting change as we build on our internationally respected range of printed books and 250 paper charts to continue to grow our digital presence and develop new digital and data products and services.  
 
The chart department is at the core of the company and is in the process of significant content migration/digitisation and product development projects.  Building on strong foundations, we have invested in geospatial production tools including Caris Hydrographic Production Database (HPD) to design and produce our nautical charts and data products.
 
The role
We’re recruiting a team leader to oversee chart production during this exciting period of change. You will be responsible for delivering new and existing product lines on time and budget.  

You will work with the Managing Director and Technical Team Lead to plan and implement departmental objectives and timelines.

 You’ll manage resourcing and organise the logistics of production of our range of 250 paper and digital charts. You will oversee a team of cartographers, geospatial data specialists and the print manager, and liaise with external stakeholders including data, software and print suppliers and customers. 



The ideal applicant will be a highly organised and motivated production or project manager, preferably with experience in a publishing, mapping or charting company.  You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with technical teams, maintain good relationships both within the company and with third parties. The ability to be flexible, adaptive and manage change is important.  
 
Knowledge of the maritime sector or an interest in sailing would be an advantage. 


About You
Essential:
Team leadership and people-management experience 

Production and project management experience
Experience with task management software and the use of dashboards to drive production
Understanding of product publishing or manufacturing workflows
Strong IT skills
Well organised with excellent self-motivation
Ability to work in a team environment to tight deadlines
Ability to analyse, research and compile information
Good communication and interpersonal skills


Desirable:
Experience of cartographic data production  
Experience of team management during change projects
Experience of mapping or nautical charting
Experience of working with geospatial data and PostGreSQL databases using Caris HPD, Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, MAPublisher, or other GIS applications.

Terms
Based at our headquarters at Wych House, the post is full time, 37.5 hours per week, but hours of work are flexible. Hybrid working is an option. Competitive salary of £40-£50K and company pension scheme.
 
Our offices are in the centre of St Ives, Cambridgeshire, between Huntingdon and Cambridge.  There is free parking and good access to the guided bus to Cambridge.
